All Nations Camp Setup and Four Directions March A Great Success
Here are a few pictures from the establishment of Camp Colorow, and then the Four Directions march and convergence in Veterans Park beneath the Capitol building.
Spirits were high, Food Not Bombs fed the people, there were loads of speakers and spoken word poets, drummers and dancers, dozens of photographers and press, about 500 people in attendance, and a festival atmosphere all around.
The occupation authorities chose not to drive the Camp out of the park at the normal 11pm curfew, instead granting an overnight camping permit, which nobody asked for in the first place. Five teepees were set up, four with black, red, white, and yellow flags representing the Four Directions.
There was a strong state and local police presence, but so far it has kept a respectful distance. Chief Gerry Whitman was present early in the day, gave a blah-blah, scoldy talk to the media about police "jurisdicKKKtion," and then promptly left.
Many of those in attendance will camp overnight with a gathering at 9:30am planned for tomorrow morning to rally the people to confront the haters' parade.
More on that with Columbus Day parade confrontation photos Saturday in the PM.
